Designing a home...

Communication is the key ingredient of a successful design project.  Our clients are put at ease and become active participants on the design process.   Prior to our first meeting we will encourage you to organize your thoughts in the form of magazine clippings, photographs, visual images, books, and description of your hopes and dreams.

When the process begins, together we will visit your site to get a feel for it in terms of sun orientation, topography, visual amenities, and proximity to adjacent properties, access, and potential siting locations.  An extensive follow up meeting occurs to review your visual images, wish list, and to discuss in detail the functional requirements of your new home.  This meeting referred to as the “programming meeting” is critical to establish the road map from which we start designing.  Detailed aspects of our programming discussion will address each individual space, the spatial relationships to each other, patterns of daily living, furniture requirements and potential placements, solar orientation, materials, code related issues and budget.  Based on the programming “road map” our approach is to develop a conceptual design illustrating various potential solutions.  These are conveyed in the form of loose hand sketches, 3 dimensional images, and computer generated drawings.  The conceptual design is refined with your feed back and together developed further in incremental steps to produce scaled floor plans and elevations.

When the design has been achieved, we transition into producing the detailed technical construction drawings and specifications.  The construction documents will include all the details and information that is needed to build your home.  Once construction commences, we will visit your house periodically to review progress, quality of workmanship, and to ensure that the design intent is complied with.  If requested, we can become your representative in the field to review the contractor’s requests for payment and process all the paperwork needed to fulfill the contractual requirements.

It is our goal at Salmon Falls Architecture is to provide you with an enjoyable experience throughout the entire process and in the end have a home that we are all proud of.
